$10,000 in Government Grants Available to Tourism Businesses

Great news for tourism industry partners. Travel Alberta has announced two exciting grant programs to encourage the development of marketing and advertising for tourism in Alberta! The Cooperative Investment Program encourages businesses to develop new tourism programs.

Travel Alberta is issuing grants to encourage tourism industry growth to $20 billion in Alberta by 2030

GRANT PROGRAM DETAILS

#1) Partnership Marketing Investment

Intake Dates

  • Summer: June 1-30, 2020
  • Fall/Winter: September 1-30, 2020

Eligible Expenses

  • Targeted online ads as part of an integrated, multi-faceted marketing campaign 
  • Design and development of ads
  • Creative Development
  • Agency Support 
  • Radio/TV/Print advertising that presents a unified tourism message
  • Social strategy and implementation (including costs related to contracted community management)
  • Media and Public Relations
  • Content Development including website redevelopment; photography and video and written content
  • E-commerce platforms

Considerations for partnership marketing investment:

  • Partnership marketing investment requires marketing activation between 2 or more Alberta based tourism partners. Marketing activities should demonstrate collaboration between the partners such as a partnered package, a single call to action, or a creative concept that unifies the partners
  • Marketing focus in local markets and visiting friends and relatives will be eligible for investment as we restart the visitor economy
  • Preference given to integrated marketing campaigns (digital and traditional media)
  • Digital conversion an asset to drive real time sales in-destination

Application Process

  • Complete and sign the application form and submit to cooperativemarketing@travelalberta.com. If you have any questions before filling out an application form, please connect with the Cooperative Investment Team.
  • Program applicants will receive email notification within three business days that an application has been received and is being reviewed.
  • Projects will receive approval and funds will be distributed following the application intake closure dates of June 30 and September 30.
  • Upon approval of project, 50% of approved funds will be released to the organization. Upon proof of payment of the original 50% of expenses, an additional payment of 25% will be released. The final payment installment of 25% will be released upon completion of project.
  • Expenses for marketing investment activated after May 14, 2020 may be eligible for investment if the tactic is approved. Expenses will need to be invoiced by a qualified third party and documented in the financial reconciliation.
  • The funding will be sent via electronic transfer. If you do not have an EFT payment process set-up with Travel Alberta, we will email you the appropriate form for completion.
  • It is at the sole discretion of Travel Alberta to manage funding requests and decline projects that may not qualify or if the program is over subscribed.

Restrictions

  • Salaries or wages as well as management fees are ineligible.
  • GST/HST expenses are not eligible.

Eligiblity

The following Alberta based organizations/businesses are eligible to apply for the Cooperative Investment Program:

  • Private sector tourism businesses
  • Municipalities
  • Non-profits
  • Businesses need to have an ATIS account and have been operating for a minimum of 3 years
